The First Step of Service

Day 7 SOS Poetry Project

“The First Step of Service”
By Barbara Brennan

By finding and focusing
on your emotional reactions
to the calls for help
and discovering what is under them,
you will find an arrow pointing directly
to where you have not cared for yourself.

The first step of service is to clear yourself
by care-taking your self.
This heals your dualistic split
and your participation
in holding the world of duality in place.

It is only then that you are able
to serve awakening
in a world of wholeness.

Gayle’s Reflection

This is THE most important thing I learned at The Barbara Brennan School of Healing. I was completely unaware that I was not taking care of myself. As I began to attend to that consciously, I received a boat load of push back from those around me. Saying no to things I didn’t want to do was such an empowerment, it sent ripples of terror through my body and energy field. When this happens all of those stifled places of fear and rejection around not meeting the needs of others began to activate. Next, the lessons and practices of self care come forth into the light of knowing who I am. Many relationships changed or dissolved and new ones arrived as I chose a new relationship with my self. I learned how to accept the changes and not judge it all so strongly.

The more loving I am to myself the more I discover and accept ALL of me. This is where healing the spilt of duality occurs. Learning to love, welcome, and accept the dark side of me changed the vibration of it. Gradually the need for control in order to stay safe fell away. Slowly, I saw myself differently in my relationships.

I began to notice how my loved ones were graciously showing me my unresolved emotional self through the challenge of interpersonal dynamics. What a revelation that was! To truly see and ask when something was amiss…Where am I in this interaction? What is this person showing me about myself? Are his feelings also my feelings?

With awareness and dedication to knowing myself, the clearing process, though sometimes upsetting, felt so good when the realization of how I was not taking good care of my self was uncovered. Yeah! This is true awakening.

Awakening to the self by to daring to choose to heal the spilt of duality by examining and allowing the expansion of stuck emotions. Consciously witnessing and feeling them with eyes open allows the movement and dissolution of the charged feeling to move downstream and out of the energy field.

Begin…Allow this process to be included in your new year self care program. Receive the guidance and support of other healers who are in it with you. This part of your plan is at the top of the list. Then you will eat well, rest, take lots of baths, play and exercise.

Open to receive your self today. Clear away the debris that no longer serves your spiritual growth and life of service. That is the first step.

Thank you Barbara for teaching me that taking lots of long, hot, baths with sea salt and baking soda serves the evolution of humanity.

See you tomorrow,
Love, Gayle

The Holistic Perspective

Day 6 SOS Poetry Project

“The Holistic Perspective”
By Barbara Brennan

Be aware of the fluctuation
between duality and wholeness
that you hold within yourself.

Rather than judge one
or congratulate the other,
simply observe, with your witness,
what is here now.
Where is my boundary?
Am I in duality?
Am I in wholeness?

The more you can teach
your positive ego
the truth of the moment,
the easier it will be
for you to find your center
in times of difficulty.

Centering
will make all the difference
in any experience
that comes to you.

It is your recognition
of an experience
from the holistic perspective
of growth and fearlessness
that completely changes
the experience.

Gayle’s Reflection

This poem reminds me that I am a constantly changing, flowing, responding, reacting, human be-ing. Remembering to practice centering when I get too stretched out into duality or wholeness helps me regain my balance. This takes practice. This takes learning how to presence myself with conscious awareness to how I am feeling in any circumstance. The more I practice centering myself with awareness, the easier it gets, and I find I am feeling happy and balanced for longer periods of time.

There is no stopping the fluctuating waves of duality and wholeness. There is only learning to recognize it and find acceptance of its’ continuous existence and appearance in my life. By doing so I have developed the skill required to surf these waves. Judging the waves often ends in a wipe out, while seeing the wave come towards me and allowing the thrill of the ride keeps me centered on the inevitable rise, crest and completion of these infinite waves of creation. Before you know it another arrives. There is no escape.

Centering each morning to prepare for the waves of the day makes all the difference. As a spiritual athlete, I claim my practice with joyful anticipation. Grounding myself into the earth…Centering into my heart…Expanding to source light configures my field into a wonderous, strong and flexible, column of light. I become a bridge of the physical and spiritual realms. This is my true nature. The practice confirms my choice to become actively whole, allowing the continuation of my growth as I recognize with ease and grace the truth of each moment.

An unruly negative ego no long runs my life. I do…me. I am consciously choosing to participate in life from the holistic perspective. Keep practicing and you will learn how to surf this thrill of a ride called LIFE.

Thank you Barbara for teaching me how to surf the infinite waves of creation fearlessly.

See you tomorrow.
Love, Gayle
